I love watching movies on my iPod Touch, I do; when I’m traveling by plane or bus or train, or as a passenger in a car when the conversation wanes. It’s a bit of a pain holding it at an angle conducive to optimum viewing, though. And the same rings true when I’m staying in a hotel with a less than stellar channel selection or in the guest room of someone’s house with no television in it – I need my visual entertainment without getting a crick in my wrist from holding my media device! Well, that’s where this little fella comes in.

iPhone Video Projector

No bigger than a candy bar, the iPod Video Projector from Hammacher Schlemmer can project up to a 60” video image or a nearby wall or ceiling, or any other such receptive surface, so I can watch my movies in the most comfortable position possible – supine. Preferably with a small bucket of well-buttered popcorn balanced precariously on my chest.

The pocket-sized projector doesn’t just work with the various iPods, however. It is also compatible with the iPhone or any other video source with composite outputs, such as video cameras, camcorders, and other video players with composite audio/video outs.

The functionality of this device doesn’t just cater to my own personal horizontal entertainment laziness, however. It can also project photos and other app content stored on your device – think of the business applications when impromptu presentations are required in remote locations with no access to the typical office setup. This could be particularly useful in combination with the iPhone’s video capture and still photography capabilities.

Pocket-Sized and Flexible

The bright, clear images are created by the projector’s Digital Light Processing Technology LED – the same as digital cinema projectors – which produces a sharp, TV-sized 480×320 resolution (3:2 aspect ratio) with a 1000:1 contrast ratio and a lifespan of over 20,000 hours.

The unit has adjustable focus and volume controls, a ½-watt internal speaker, and a headphone jack for private listening. The included AC adapter and rechargeable battery provides approximately 2 hours of viewing after a 3 hour charge. A USB cable is also included for charging from a computer. You can vary the size of the image by the distance of the device from the projection surface – 10” to 102” projects a respective image from 6” to 60”, which are the limits of the lens’ focus.

All in all, a superb little technological trinket.

Dimensions: 4 ¾”/12cm long, 2”/5cm wide and 1”/2.5cm deep. Weight 4oz/113g. Price: $379.95. Shipping: Signature gift wrapping available for $6.95.

Depending on whom you believe, credit cards have been with us since either the late forties or early fifties, introducing a life of convenience the previous generations would have stopped in the street and gawked at. No longer did we have to haul around hefty sacks of cash in order to fund our pursuit of leisure. A simple transaction with a small card was all that was required.

Online Purchase Security System

Of course, back then, doubtful telephone calls had to be made and identification signatures suspiciously evaluated. Compared to today, it was the equivalent of being frisked and frog-marched to a holding cell for a prolonged bout of cross-examination. Now, with the Online Purchase Security System from Hammacher Schlemmer, those days are long gone.

With the advent of the internet the credit card came into it’s own. No longer would hours be spent listening to repetitive “your call is important to us” messages on the telephone in order to purchase from a catalogue (a previous version of internet shopping printed on something called “paper” and distributed via the mail to households around the world). Nowadays simply typing your credit card number into a little box on a website is usually all that is required.

Peace Of Mind With One Swipe

The problem is this method is ripe for fraud, especially as the more we do it, the more blasé we become about throwing our numbers around like candy at a kids’ parade. Even “secure” travel sites such as Expedia.com has suffered $4.1 million losses from credit card fraud, according to CNN.

Criminal Fraudsters can put hidden software on your computer to detect and steal your credit card number and you‘d never know it until your bill showed up.

The Online Purchase Security System attaches to your computer with a retractable USB cable and reads your credit card with a swipe, then encrypts the number before it even reaches your computer, then inserts the encrypted number into the credit card field on the website you are visiting. The software never stores your number on your computer, taking any fraudsters’ surreptitious malware or spyware out of the equation. As an added bonus, you’ll never have to type in your number again.

The Online Purchase Security System is compatible with Windows XP/Vista/Windows 7, and Internet Explorer 6 and higher. Support is forthcoming for Firefox.

Dimension: 3”/7.5cm long, 2”/5cm Wide and 1½”/3.75cm tall. Weight: 6oz/180g. Price: $89.95. Shipping: Signature gift wrapping available for $6.95.

Adding a touch of nostalgia and charm to your home can be easy with the classic diner CD and iPod jukebox. Do you remember the days when you could go to the local dinner and play some of your favorite tunes on the jukebox? For those that don’t remember these days this jukebox can add to your décor or even make a great addition to a game room.

Classic Diner CD and iPod Jukebox

This classic tabletop diner jukebox has all the chrome and charm that goes with jukeboxes from the late 1950s until the early 1960s. To top it off this jukebox comes with a CD that has one hundred of the greatest songs of that era performed by the original artists. Not only does the jukebox look great but with the ability to select the song by pressing letters and numbers, it has the sound and feel of a real tabletop jukebox. You can just hear the spin and pop of the vinyl record as it goes into place.

Once you have chosen your favorite song sit back and let the music surround you with a stereo speaker system that is wonderful. Some of the greats include the Flamingos with “I Only Have Eyes for You” done in that wonderful doo-wop style. Or how about the one they did “If I Can’t Have You.” Bobby Darin with “Dream Lover,” Gene Chandler with “Duke of Earl,” and of course the unforgettable Elvis Presley with songs like “Are You Lonesome Tonight” will help bring back memories of an earlier era gone by. Having these great songs at your fingertips alone is worth the cost of the jukebox.

Old Favorites with a New Twist

Not only can you listen to the tunes that you know and love but so can your children and grandchildren. The built in CD player and iPod means that they also will enjoy the music of their generation. They will have the ability to listen to the music that they choose and yet still experience what a jukebox was like. This can be a great way to connect with the children or teens. Music is a universal language that is loved by most whether it is old music that the kids laugh at and you loved or music they love and brings you to tears when you hear it.

The classic diner jukebox comes with 20 preset channels from an FM station solving the problem of something different to listen to for all in the household. This jukebox definitely has something for everyone and a killer sound system that makes you feel like you are right there in the diner. No more fighting with everyone over what you will listen to at home. A great style and superb function is what you get with this piece of nostalgia.

Also included in this package is a set of headphones that can be downright priceless when you want to listen to a blast from the past or some of children want to listen to today’s tunes. With an awesome audio system and ability to play music sequentially you don’t have to worry about what you will play next on your new jukebox.

Dimensions: 15” H x 12 ½” W x 7”D Price: $299.95 Shipping: $28.95 (Standard) Available at Hammacher.com

Have you ever tried to take a child’s picture? If you have then you know how hard it is to catch them being still. They will twist and squirm given half the chance. So, how do you capture them at that perfect moment when they are smiling and being still? With the world’s fastest digital camera of course!

World's Fastest Digital Camera

This is one claim that seems too good to be true, but actually is true. The world’s fastest title comes in due to the fact that this digital camera can take a whopping 60 pictures in just one second. Forget those pixilated pictures of past fast cameras. This camera delivers full resolution pictures of the highest quality.

The sort of quality of image offered by this digital camera was once a thing only afforded professional photographers. Now you can take pictures at home that look like they were taken in a studio. Imagine being able to catch the baby’s first steps with such depth of clarity. This is why this digital camera took home the Popular Mechanics Editor’s Choice Award.

No More Blurry Pictures!

Do you find that you just can’t seem to hit the button fast enough to capture the perfect picture? This is no longer an issue. Just as the shutter reaches the halfway point it starts capturing photos. It takes thirty before it is fully down and thirty just afterward. Talk about backing up the claim of being the world’s fastest.

You can then use the digital camera to browse through the pictures deleting the ones you don’t want and keeping the ones you want. Catch the perfect picture of a dew drop as it starts to fall from a spider web in the morning sun. This gives a whole new meaning to picture perfect.

Another great benefit to this digital camera is its ability to take super clear video as well. It offers three separate frame settings (300, 600, and 1200 fps!) and can even record at 1080i which allows for playback on an HDTV. Wouldn’t it be cool to be able to show your friends the hummingbird you captured on the camera and slow it down so they can see the individual beats of its wings?

The world’s fastest digital camera can do all of this. It even has 32 megabytes of internal memory and can take up to 520 pictures on a single battery charge. Unlike many digital cameras it allows for a variety of memory cards as well. It can use MMC/MMC+ and SD or even SDHC cards.

You might expect a camera like this to be somewhat bulky. The opposite of this is true however. Not only is it the world’s fastest, this digital camera is also ultra light when compared to others in its class. It comes in at a light 1 ½ pounds!

There is no arguing as to whether or not this camera is top notch. It is most definitely top of the line and provides high quality pictures and video like no other. Take the guess work out of trying to time the perfect picture and try out the world’s fastest digital camera. Once you do you will never want to go back to your old camera again.

How many of us have grown up watching the Star Wars saga? No doubt a great many of us have entertained thoughts of what it would be like to have our own personal droid. Now you can! R2-D2, the plucky little robot that was full of courage and attitude, is now available for purchase.

Voice Activated R2-D2

This is not your average movie replica collectible though. This faithful R2-D2 replica is voice activated! Imagine giving the little droid commands and then watching him carry them out. There are more than forty voice activated commands you can give R2-D2.

The realm of voice activation has advanced considerably. This is readily apparent with R2. The first toys that utilized such technology could only follow simple one word commands. They could only store an extremely limited number of these as well.

Voice Activated Features

Today, voice activated electronics can handle a great many commands even complex ones. R2-D2 can follow such commands. For example, if you want him to move forward you just have to tell him to “move forward five units.” This gives him a directional command as well as a distance command.

Do you remember how R2 could sometimes fall into an ill mood? All you have to do is to tell him “R2, behave yourself” and he will get over it. How’s that for following commands? This voice activated R2-D2 can do so much more as well.

With R2-D2’s infrared sensor you can play a game of tag. He will use the sensor to seek out anyone in the room. Another benefit of his infrared sensor includes R2-D2’s ability to stand sentry in a room. You could know when your siblings (or your spouse) sneaks into your room unannounced. Imagine their surprise when R2 sounds the alarm!

R2-D2’s wheels are not the only part of this precocious droid that moves. Just like in the movies, his dome can rotate. This allows R2 to scan the room. It also gives you the distinct feeling that this voice activated droid is actually listening to you.

R2-D2’s sounds are just as authentic as the rest of the little robot. From his happy whistles and beeps to his sad little “wheeooo” sounds R2 will leave you thinking that he can actually feel emotions. Perhaps his best quality, however, is his ability to dance.

The droid’s voice activated dance command will cause R2-D2 to begin dancing while playing the most famous of the Star Wars music, the Cantina Theme. Another trait of this lovable little droid is its ability to answer yes or no questions. He can also mimic sound effects and actual lines from the movies.

While this voice activated R2-D2 is not nearly as tall as his famous movie counterpart (15” vs. roughly 3 ft) he is just as energetic and loveable. One thing to keep in mind is that this R2 does require four AA batteries and four D batteries. If you are looking for the perfect gift for the Star Wars fan in your life this voice activated R2-D2 is just the thing.
